About Miranda

Miranda Kishel, MBA, CVA, CBEC, MAFF, MSCTA is an award-winning small business owner, accountant, and finance professional with a distinguished career in business valuation, business consulting, exit planning, accountancy, and tax advising. Through her company, Development Theory, Miranda serves small business owners and the professionals that work with them across the United States. She provides expert guidance in valuation, consulting, strategic planning, exit planning, and tax advising.

Miranda has multiple credentials, including Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), Certified Business Exit Consultant (CBEC), Master Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF), and Main Street Certified Tax Advisor (MSCTA). She earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Strategy, as well as separate Bachelor's degrees in Finance and Accounting. She has been recognized as one of NACVA’s "30 Under 30," an honor awarded to rising leaders in the business valuation, litigation support, and accounting fields. Development Theory won a Stellar Business Award and was named a Top 100 Small Business Services Firm in 2024.

As recognized thought leader in the field, Miranda has been featured in major media outlets, including Forbes, Yahoo! Finance, CEO Weekly, and US Reporter. She is also a published author in NACVA's The Value Examiner magazine and QuickRead newsletters.

Miranda's expertise spans forensic accounting, business valuation, economic damages, and asset tracing. She collaborates with two Chicagoland accounting firms - Epstein Nach Escobedo, LLC and Gould & Pakter Associates, LLC - on business valuation and forensic accounting engagements. In addition, she serves as a specialized advisor within the Entrepreneur Fund’s Expert Network, offering guidance on valuation and succession planning to small business owners.

Previously, Miranda held a business development position at the Entrepreneur Fund, a community development financial institution, where she acted as a business advisor and commercial lender and for small businesses throughout northern Minnesota’s Iron Range. She also played a key role in redesigning and teaching strategic business planning courses for the organization and holds company records related to her work with the Small Business Administration’s Microloan and Paycheck Protection Program products.

In her early twenties, Miranda started a real estate development company as a side business and built a portfolio of investment properties in and around her hometown of Tower, Minnesota. On many of her investment properties, she acts as her own general contractor and oversees the renovations and build-outs of her residential, vacation, and commercial properties.

​

Miranda previously held volunteer roles as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Tower Economic Development Authority, a subcommittee of the local city council, and as the co-Executive Director of the Lake Vermilion Chamber of Commerce.

Miranda’s areas of expertise include the economic development, real estate, and construction industries. However, she also has significant experience consulting for the retail, service, tourism, food, agriculture, private medical practice, dental, and manufacturing industries.
